Chicago's Urban Forest

The IIT-Knapp Entrepreneurship Center sponsored this project to assess the business opportunity behind Chicago's Urban Forest. It was thought that the wood from felled tress was not being used to its full extent.

Our team researched the problem through expert interviews and secondary research. We concluded that end-of-life wood use wasn't the main issue and that more value should be placed on living trees. Also Chicago's urban forest was a fragmented system that lacked communication between the parties that handled the trees during the trees' life cycle.

Based on this reframe, we outlined a number of opportunity spaces and created illustrative business concepts for each space.
